Challenging students to think critically through inquiry-based learning is key to active learning at Hershey High School. Teachers provide a learning environment in which they function more as the "guide on the side" rather than the "sage on the stage." In this way, students are able to build their understanding in collaboration with their peers and teacher, fostering a greater sense of ownership of the learning and deeper engagement in the process. We value learning that requires higher level analytical and evaluative thinking, rather than the simpler acquisition of facts or rote memorization.
