Flexible Learning Environment
As instruction evolves the space in which learning occurs has evolved as well. Instruction that promotes creativity, collaboration, communication and critical thinking requires students have the ability to sit in small groups, engage with each other and other professionals in the building. Teachers need space where they can offer small group and individual instruction. In order to facilitate students having a wide selection of opportunities our school has identified FlexTime Manager as a tool to ensure students are accounted for during the school day.
In the future we hope to implement an open-campus policy and transform the Cafeteria, Large Group Instruction Room and open hallway spaces to ensure all students have the opportunity access the instructional staff and resources that are needed to learn.
We are seeking to develop guidelines for our teacher duty period so that they are focused on offering learning opportunities. For example, our Environmental Science Teacher has been asked to schedule a nature walk one time each week for students. This teacher is excused from his responsibility for monitoring a study hall on that day.
